Article in FENews: College Careers Provision Given the Thumps Up

Waltham Forest College has recently been assessed under the matrix Standard, which is a unique quality standard used to assess and measure the delivery and impact of the overall careers service.

The two-and-a-half-day assessment involved a matrix assessor interviewing key stakeholders such as staff who lead and deliver the careers service, to students, partner schools and employers who all receive the careers service as end users.

Student Services and the Business Development departments underwent the review and were able to demonstrate the careers service in practice and articulate key strategies used by the College to show effectiveness in improving its key outcomes.

The assessment report outlined clear leadership and direction for staff who deliver the service and further highlighted how staff are being developed to ensure that the College is able to meet and respond to the demands within the sector. Read more

Through our work in assessing organisations against a variety of quality standards, we recognise the impact that using different frameworks can have on performance and customer experience. The Assessment Services Ltd Annual Awards seek to recognise those organisations who have gained demonstrable benefits from using one or more of our quality standards.

There is no limit to the number of categories that can be entered, although only one entry per category will be accepted. There is no set format for entries, however, each entry must not exceed 1,000 words. When considering an entry please ensure your organisation is accredited/certificated to the Standard Award within the categories.

Case Study: Walsall College and the matrix Standard

Walsall College’s Careers Guidance Service is free and available to all students and prospective students.  

Students and prospective students can access the Careers Guidance Service in many different ways i.e. by telephone, face to face and e-guidance. There is also a dedicated Careers Centre located on the ground floor in the Atrium where we operate a Quick Queries Drop-in service for current students on a daily basis. The college provides an extensive vocational provision for students aged from 14 years old and over to no upper age limit.

The Senior Management and Curriculum team are all fully aware of the Careers Guidance Service and curriculum staff actively encourage students to attend or take part in activities or refer students to the Careers Team for further support, when they have surpassed their expertise.

How to enter: 

  • Visit our Awards 2018 online http://assessmentservices.com/awards/
  • Identify the category/categories for entry
  • Write a narrative explaining how you demonstrate the criteria (not exceeding 1,000 words)
  • Submit your entry to Assessment Services Ltd by  Friday 10.08.18
  • Shortlisted organisations will be informed by Friday 07.09.18
  • Awards dinner will take place on Monday 01.10.18 in the evening

The Awards Dinner will be held on the evening of Monday 1st October 2018, where winners will be recognised for the outstanding success in one of the following categories:

  • Using Standards to Improve Performance
  • Using Standards to Support Change
  • Effectively working with Communities/Partnerships to Improve Performance
  • Customer Service Excellence Award – Building a Customer-Focused Organisation
  • Merlin Standard Award – Working with Effective Supply Chains
  • The matrix Standard Award for defining, delivering and improving the Information, Advice, and Guidance to their customers
  • The Families First Quality Award for defining, delivering and improving the information for families

Your matrix 3-year Accreditation Review Assessment Journey

Is your matrix 3-year accreditation review assessment due this year – then the following flowchart might be helpful.

Assessment Services recommend you consider the below action points when preparing for your accreditation review assessment.

You may wish to complete a Self-Assessment, to ensure there are no gaps in your evidence and consider any changes that have taken place within your organisation in the last 36 months.

If you are happy with your progress and are ready to book your assessment review, advance on to the online booking form – http://matrixstandard.com/online-booking-form/ but before you do, please see below the key points to consider when booking your review assessment;

  • Be aware of your accreditation review date to ensure your preferred assessment dates due by the anniversary date.
  • Allow 12 weeks for your preferred assessment dates, in order to give us sufficient time to work with you to plan your reassessment.
  • Please remember we cannot formally confirm and book your onsite dates until all fees are paid.
  • Booking your assessment in advance (i.e. 3months before your review date) means you can secure your Assessors’ availability.
  • If you have had major changes take place within your organisation since your last Continuous Improvement Check, and you are unsure how this impacts your accreditation, then please do contact us or your Assessor for support.

Is Your matrix Review Assessment Due This Year?

To give your matrix Assessor time to work with you to plan your reassessment, and for all fees to be paid before the start of the evidence gathering visit, your online booking form needs to be submitted at least 12 weeks before your 3-year anniversary date at the very latest. This is the date that appears on your matrix certificate.

East Midlands based Training Provider; CT Skills has successfully been re-accredited the matrix Standard in recognition of the hard work and dedication their employees continuously put in to making learners, employers and partners feel valued and informed.

The matrix assessment took place across three days with visits at the company’s Head Office based in Nottingham along with a visit to their additional centre’s in Nottingham City Centre, Derby and Mansfield.

In total the visit concluded with 22 staff members individually interviewed, 12 telephone interviews with work-based learners and 12 face-to-face interviews with classroom based learners, as well as general reviews of the CT Skills website, social media accounts and performance monitoring data.

The re-accreditation highlighted CT Skills mission to encourage learners at each stage of their journey with a main focus on providing learners with advice and guidance right from enrolment to post-completion. Read more

We are delighted to announce that Assessment Services Ltd who manage the assessment process for both the matrix Standard and the Merlin Standard have joined the IEP Employability Trailblazer Employer Group to assist in the process of developing the new standards for Employability Practitioners and Lead Employability Practitioners within the Apprenticeship Trailblazer.

Assessment Services will be joining the Trailblazer Employer Group in an advisory capacity to help provide guidance that will assist in the assessment process and help to ensure the group deliver quality standards that will improve standards in the employability sector.
